I will be singing live and doing live grain automation
Also- my piece is not 33 seconds. it is about 2 minutes but i am looping it and doing stuff live so i couldnt figure out how to uplaod it like that to soundcloud since im doing a lot of automation live
For my final project, I attempted to make a trap beat (something i am not the best at) instead of my normal girly taylor swifty piano sound that i did for logic.
I had my 2 best friends rap on my track. First I added 3 different types of bell sounds on ableton, after that i added a mambo piano sound. I realize i should have dome my drums and beats first, but actually i did it very last (probably not a good idea) i doubled the audio and added automation to my friends’ voices and at the end of my track
Anyways, i had a lot of trouble using ableton but now i think i kinda have it figured it out
This is my final project! Everything I wrote in the post regarding my draft is still true, all I did to this was add vocals and made sure the tack was in place. The audio i used was a shaker ( that was actually a pill bottle but sounded pretty good) into my piece to give it more drive throughout the song
Again, the key point of this was learning how to use the chord trigger, learning how to duplicate instruments while transposing them to make one 0 and one +12, I learned how to double audio and harmonize as well as creating a beat to the song that made it progress and have movement or more feeling. I also learned how to fix velocity and make my piano chords sound more lifelike. I attempted to use automation make my track fade out at the end. I also used it with the orchestra section and tried to make it fade and then come back at regular volume. I also used automation with my harp section- I paneled it to the right because having it in the middle didn’t sound as good as making it paneled
My draft consists of: Verse 1, Pre Chorus, Chorus, Verse 2, Pre Chorus, Chorus, Bridge, Chorus
I worked very hard on this draft. The only thing that is left to do is add vocals and maybe record my friend playing the cello part. Something I did that was very cool was that I learned how to use the chord trigger plug in. For all the chords that you hear in this piece I created them using the chord trigger. The hardest part of doing this piece was getting the velocity correct. I had to go back and set the velocity to certain things if i did not like the sound I heard. For this project I really wanted to experiment with using orchestral instruments. I have never been good at composing something using classical orchestral instruments, so this was a good learning tool for me. I am having my friend play cello on the final project instead of using the built in instrument so it has less of a computer feel and more of an audio human feel. I wrote lyrics and might have either a friend or me sing on this piece. Something cool that I added into this piece was the harp part. I have a mix of instruments which is cool. I have a harp as well as African Marimba’s as well as flutes, synths, and cellos. It is an interesting mix of cultural instruments which makes the piece sound cool.
I redid my old loop project and made it dope by having my bff Merce Milly rap on it. He rapped freestyle on my latin vibe aspired track. (the best part is when i scream “I’M RIPPIN IT UP!” i thought it was hilarious so i kept it ha ha.
To record audio, we used a Yeti microphone with two pop filters, and fiddled with gain till we found the right balance.
For my first draft, I attempted to make a composition using a real song. I downloaded 2 mp3’s – a studio acapella version and then an instrumental version of the song. I used pure vocals as a loop, as well as the intro instrumentation. I figured out the bpm of Moves like Jagger and with that i used 128 apple loops and tried to make them blend as best as i could to make a beat.
