This is a really terrible song, I am not too proud of it. Either way here it is. It’s a house/ techno beat with some chords and crazy layering.
For this draft I have my almost completely finished song that I performed live minus a few fillers and some rises/ more FX stuff. I am really proud of this and really like the performance aspect of Live.
I really am trying to progress this to the best of my abilities but I am have a hard time getting any synths to sound how I want them to as well as having some problems with creating a live performance. Oh well, thankfully this is almost done and I can hopefully end with something I am proud of.
For my final project I decided to use Ableton, I am not sure yet whether I will perform it live due to some recent setbacks but I am going to try to come in and perform it. I am really proud of a lot of the things I was able to learn in this class and I believe it has been a great learning experience.
I am really starting to enjoy the music I have been making for this class and am happy to be working in Live. The lessons really helped me out but overall I still am confused about many things but I think I am mainly limited musically and creatively. I learned some about session view from the live lessons but otherwise it has been a real learning experience.
For my Ableton Project I would like to incorporate a Novation Launchpad as well as a vocoder or MIDI keyboard. I want to create a song and then put the stems into session view perhaps with a backing track for the samples and such then trigger them with the launchpad while I either sing with the vocoder with the prewritten MIDI information.
Honestly I really was not a huge fan of this track at all. It really grinded my gears that I couldn’t achieve certain sounds that I wanted but whatever I’m still learning.
- 3 tracks of recorded audio, 1 of which must be you singing/rapping or speaking
- 2 tracks of MIDI you perform
- 2 tracks of MIDI you write in
- 2 tracks of MIDI in which you use step input: I wrote them in with step input, killing 2 birds with one stone.
- 1 example of tempo change
- 3 examples of instrument automation
- 3 examples of track automation
- 3 examples of effects automation: The previous picture also shows effects automation on the autofilter and space designer reverb in the filter noise sweep track.
- 2 examples of automation performed by mouse: All track automation performed with mouse
- 2 examples of automation performed by controller: The reverb and filter automation were performed using a knob on my controller.
- 2 examples of automation written in
- All mouse automation was written in.
- 1 Arpeggiator example:
- 1 delay line example:
- The arpeggiator and delay are both on the same synth
I know that I am known to continually completely change my projects but I promise it’s only because I begin to realize that I cannot achieve the sound I want or the type of melody given my very limited knowledge of the program. I think for this project I have finally found something I like as I sampled a JFK speech and am beginning to develop some spoken word vocals. I really like my beat and even the chord progression I’m using. The readings really helped as I added in some reverb to get a fatter sound on some chord bass sounds as well as adding a small delay section to some drums. I am now developing a melody and writing my lyrics hopefully it will be done before Wednesday.
For this draft I kept the same basic beat but changed up my synth sounds and realized I needed a new chord progression. I haven’t been able to come up with one worth posting so I left it out of this draft. I hope I can come up with something worth listening to and make it sound alright. The readings really helped me with the EQ and compression part of this song. I was able to properly take out some frequencies that were taking up too much headroom in my mix as well as compressing my drum track so it sounds a bit better.
Hey guys, thanks for the patience, I put a ton of time into making the drum beat for this eclectic and kind of funky more downtempo song. I am going to try to add in a recorded synthesizer as well as some other instruments. I used step input for my first almost ambient sounds then input the other sounds just using a MIDI keyboard. I can’t wait to see where this song goes.
The readings helped a lot on this because I am not a very strong keyboard player so without the step input feature I would have lacked the ability to input notes to the MIDI track that way. I also have become much more proficient with the keyboard commands and keybindings of Logic.
