Here’s my final. Just about everything is my voice (with the exception of a baking tray and Joe) I did not use the keyboard at all because I wanted to see if I could make something just with recorded external stuff. This was easily the most fun I’ve had this whole semester. I think what I learned most from this class was to not really give a shit about anything because no one else gives a shit and that’s pretty liberating. The no rubric was the best thing to happen for sure
It’s literally just like 21 tracks of recorded mic stuff. One compressor on the beatboxing.
This was going well but then I junked everything up and now everything is gone. I’m working on a new idea that is pretty much entirely foreign to me so it might suck a big one but whatever I don’t really care because it will be fun.
What helped me with this was Logic freezing and me not saving my stuff consistently. Mostly Logic Lesson 2 because it was mainly Apple Loops until this point. But I will say it’s kinda cool that it happened because now I’m trying new stuff out.

This was definitely an experience. At first I thought “Wow this is hard as shit can I get a zero and still pass the class?” but by the end I was more like “I wish I could sleep forever, but at least I made something kinda cool.” I originally set out to make a punk disco medley. That pretty much did not happen. What did happen though, is a song with disco/house beats becoming warped and turned into a much darker piece. I think this happened because I spent hours and hours working on stuff and making lyrics that I just couldn’t get to work, so I wanted to show that with the two aspects not allowing each other to go on. I kinda like to imagine it as a Frankenstein’s monster but more malevolent. In the end, I’m not thrilled with what I’ve made, but I appreciate where the guidelines for this project took me. The initial Ableton readings were really not helpful because they didn’t ever open and still don’t. However, the page with the Live tutorials was helpful, most specifically this and this. The reversing became pretty important (to me) and the first video was good because otherwise I wouldn’t have known what to do.
I think this is almost identical to my last one but whatever it sounds totally different in live which is what we’re actually using so I’m not putting much thought into the logic arrangement. This is probably the most stressed I’ve ever been in this class because nothing is fucking coming together so my presentation will be me openly weeping over a foot pedal I’ll be pushing with my face. Most helpful thing this week was caffeine and self-loathing.
So Live is really hard to use. I used some of the basic guides and kind of got a feel for it, but right now most of what I’m doing is in logic. I have a single verse and a chorus for my song so far. Uses The Weather Girls, A Taste of Honey, The Ramones, The Misfits, and Dead Kennedys, and the chorus is to the beat of The Bee Gees.
Ah ah ah ah Killin the poor, killin the poor X whatever (Chorus)
Hey ho let’s go, because it’s raining men now.
What they want, I don’t know they’re all revved up and ready to
Boogie oogie oogie til they turn the beat around,
Love your London Dungeon, Here’s hopin you’re swell.
I’m kinda holding off on the computer stuff right now and have been listening to a lot of stuff for inspiration and I think this is coming together right now. The music I have right now is pretty much just a compilation of noises I’ll be using later and splice up in the right order, because I don’t know where stuff is going yet.
So I had this scheduled to self-publish on Friday but I guess it didn’t so shit.
So I think what I want to do is do a medley thing with punk and disco. I like the idea because traditionally punk hated the shit out of disco when it was super popular because it was seen as too clean and manufactured.
I think it may be neat to try to combine the two and see what that sounds like because I super like punk music and unironically also like disco a lot. I figure I’ll change the beat in the back with the controller as the lyrics change between punk centric and disco centric. I’m going to work on drum beats over the weekend and see what I can come up with so if it doesn’t work out at all I can ask to change it early on.
Uhh this was hard as shit for me and I hate it. Like, I’m super not happy with this and I could not be happier to be moving on to the next project and hopefully do better. I put in a bunch of hours but never really felt inspiration for this one like I did my first one. At least I hit most of the requirements, so now my family won’t feel shame and beat me with a set of ping pong paddles. He also didn’t actually die.

So I’m feeling optimistic as to where this is going. I know where and what my vocals will be and I know where I’ll be putting my tempo change in. Over break I should be able to everything done that I need to. I think if my my project were to end on the note it does now I’d put a fade on it so it sounds less abrupt.
The most helpful thing for me this week was class on Wednesday when we went over automation tools, like the curve pointer thing and editing stuff in the piano roll editor. The video on controller assignments was also helpful.
This is super hard. I didn’t change much in this because I wound up throwing out a few hours worth of stuff I made that I couldn’t stand anymore and I never got around to recording any guitar for this, but I’m hoping to get that done by Friday. Again, the most helpful thing was Logic Lesson 6: Creating and Editing Midi because all I’ve been doing is MIDI editing and fiddling. Also I probably won’t be able to do vocals until my throat stops hurting so much and I don’t sound like trash.
